Hannah and Matt were married on a charming rainy day in Georgetown in the middle of May at the Ritz-Carlton Georgetown, a perfectly located venue in the heart of this historic neighborhood. The hotel, formerly an industrial building from 1932, provided a modern backdrop to both ceremony and reception. Hannah loved eucalyptus of all sorts and we included as many varieties as possible within our designs, paired with a white and green floral palette, which felt fresh and chic in the space. It was a pleasure working with French Door Events and Astrid Photography on that day!
Incorporating "Something Blue" in your Wedding Florals and Beyond
If you are a romantic bride at heart looking to incorporate “something blue” in your wedding, there are many ways we can play with the color, even discreetly, through your wedding flowers and decor touches. Blue flowers are a bit of a rarity but the few that are available, depending on the season, are quite stunning! We can work with delphinium, hydrangea and the dainty tweedia or muscari for lighter blues or darker blues with anemones, thistle or darker delphiniums. I am lucky to have worked with brides who have trusted me to incorporate touches of blue here and there in their florals. Unless you are a blue fanatic and want to have a blue decor, my recommendation is to go light on touches. Below are a few ways we worked with blue this year.
Incorporate Touches of Blue in your Bouquet
For Massy, who got married in the summer, we designed her bouquet with pastels and included some light blue delphiniums. Her bridesmaids were dressed in shades of nude and carried a simple bouquet of white sweet pea. The touches of light blue really made Massy’s bouquet pop!
Charlotte’s bouquet was mostly white with touches of light blue tweedia. We mixed in some muted green foliage and picked the smallest blue flower available so that the color contrast would remain soft.Lita had a bit of a boho vibe for her decor and we incorporated some blue tweedia as well in a palette of blush, dusty pinks, creams and peach. Her table runners were dusty blue which were the perfect touch of blue on the tablescape to resonate with the blue touches in the florals, and the photos say it all: blue is a good fit with pink and peach!
Carry Small Blue Touches throughout your Wedding Decor and Details
Flat lays are great memories of your wedding aesthetic and a good place to add a few blue blooms or other blue touches ! Similarly, the table florals can include small touches of blue. All these can be accents only and work in neutral or more colorful palettes.
Incorporate Blue Fabric Touches
Whether or not you decide to include blue touches in your florals, another option is to have some nice quality fabrics used here and there: your bouquet could be wrapped with blue ribbon. I use vintage looking silk ribbon for bouquet wrapping and it lends itself to a tight wrap or a flowy style which can look so romantic!
For Lita and Dylan’s wedding, Teresa from Rex and Regina sourced a dusty blue gauze table runner which complemented the wedding aesthetic and florals perfectly!
Dress up your besties
A soft French blue palette for your bridesmaids’ dresses always charms ! Charlotte opted for light blue dresses for her best friends which worked very well for her chic Virginia estate wedding.
Katie mixed blues in her coordinated bridesmaids’ looks for a sophisticated wedding in Washington, D.C.
I love blue as I’m sure you can tell by now. I tend to gravitate towards lighter blue shades as they blend well with lots of palettes and create less harsh color contrasts! What do you think? Do you want to work with blue touches for your wedding? I am here for it if you’d like - let’s discuss.
